The program began with a feature presentation from award-winning author, Kathy Kacer. Kathy spoke about Hiding Edith, the Holocaust remembrance book she authored. It tells the true story of Toronto resident Edith Schwalb Gelbard, who, as a young girl, was saved from the Nazis by the French village of Moissac.
Kathy Kacer is a renowned author of Holocaust literature for young readers and travels the country speaking about it. Read more about Kathy here.
Dr. Kori Street (pictured at left with students), Director of Education at the USCShoah Foundation - The Institute for Visual History and Education in Los Angeles, California, introduced students to IWitness, the Shoah Foundation’s latest technological program. This internet platform brings the human stories of the Institute’s Visual History Archive to middle school students and their teachers by engaging multimedia-learning activities. Kori demonstrated how teaching with IWItness integrates digital literacy, problem-based learning and information literacy into classroom learning.
